The Old Glory Honor Flight taking 90 veterans from Appleton International Airport to Washington, D.C. Wednesday, visiting monuments built in their honor.

One of those onboard the flight was Ken Anderson.

“I'm excited,” he said.

Leaders with the organization take veterans from WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars on the free trip to D.C.

“I'm grateful,” said Anderson.

Anderson said he was ready to see Washington again after working at the Pentagon decades ago.

“I was up on the 4th floor” he said. “I reviewed FBI investigative files for people who were being considered for top secret positions.”

The flight also connects Ken Anderson to Jason Nett, a guardian on the flight. He is also a veteran himself.

“Making sure that they enjoy their day, because it's all about them,” said Nett. “This is now my 6th time as a guardian, been a great opportunity to give back to veterans prior to myself.”

Guardians make sure veterans have everything they need – wheelchairs, meals and assisting at the monuments.

Nett said he understands the need for all veterans to feel appreciated for their service.

“When I came home, there was a homecoming. People actually cared. You know, they didn't get that. It's nice to give back to them to be able to go see their monument and spend a little time with them to give them that appreciation,” said Nett.

Wednesday’s flight is the final flight of the season, wrapping up "Mission 43". There have been four flights in 2017.
