A Wisconsin company has recalled more than 1,000 pounds of pork sausage patties because of possible listeria contamination.

Fair Oaks Farms, LLC, located in Pleasant Prairie, is recalling 1,134 pounds of the fully-cooked sausage patties that were made on August 8.

The recall includes 2-pound plastic sleeve packages containing "Breakfast Best Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties" with a sell-by date of 05/15/2018.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number EST. 174791 above the sell date.

The items were shipped to distribution and retail locations in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Routine testing by the company found positive results for Listeria monocytogenes in the patties. The products were on hold at a distribution center, but were accidentally shipped.

So far there have been no confirmed reports of medical reactions to the products.

Eating food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that mostly affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women and newborns.

It can cause fever, muscle aches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.

In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.

Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.
