The City of Oshkosh has its first confirmed Emerald Ash Borer case. The DNR found the beetle on private property near US 26 and I-41 in July. The site is near previous infestations south of the city limits. The Town of Black Wolf and the Town of Nekimi experienced infestations in August 2013.

The Emerald Ash Borer will kill any untreated ash tree, so the city says it has been treating healthy trees and removing others that are in poor condition. If homeowners treat trees on their property, it must be done at their own expense.

Signs of EAB include thinning of the canopy, D-shaped exit holes in the bark, new branches spouting low on the trunk, cracked bark, and woodpeckers pulling at the bark to get the insect larvae beneath it.

Winnebago County has been under a quarantine since 2013 which means wood cannot be moved out of the county in an effort to prevent spreading EAB to other areas.
