Egg Harbor, WI-- For a summer vacation -- it's always nice to bring along your pets and Door County is becoming more and more pet friendly. Several lodges, restaurants and shops allows pets to eat, sleep and shop with their owners. "We started refusing a lot of people that travel with their pets and that population is getting more and more" says Claire Murphy, Light House Inn.

Claire Murphy owns and operates Light House Inn hosting families and couples and now pets. For the past four years the light house inn has had a separate lodging area for people who decide to vacation with their pets. "The last year was phenomenal. it increased almost 20 percent" says Murphy.

Murphy says that allowing pets isn't an added hassle, rooms are scrubbed from top to bottom.Bringing along your pet also comes with some rules. "You can not leave your dog alone and it must be attended or if it alone it must be quiet and in a cage" says Murphy.

It's not only lodging that's picking up on this trend restaurants are now allowing you to bring your pooch with you to either enjoy dinner or lunch out on the patio. "We basically started this in the last three to four years were we've allowed people to bring their pets out onto our patio" says Stacy Wodack, Shipwrecked Brewery.

Restaurants like Shipwrecked Brewery, provide water bowls for pets and seat owners in shaded areas to keep pets cool and hydrated. Since allowing pets Wodack says customers have flocked to the brewery and is expecting to have a patio filled with families and their furry friends. “It does make it more inviting for them to be able to bring their pets with them" says Wodack.

Its recommended  to make reservations in advanced for lodging. Rooms at the light house inn are booked for a majority of July and for the beginning of August.
