It's the trial known all across the globe.

"I was in Arizona for a while and that's when we caught up on it, but I read the whole thing," said Pierre Ashley of Manitowoc.

Thanks to the Netflix documentary "Making a Murderer" Manitowoc has been put on the map and not it's in the spotlight again.

"When I was younger I remember seeing Steven Avery getting out the first time and I remember seeing that on the news," explained lifelong Manitowoc resident, Paige Hagen.

This time it's Avery's nephew, Brendan Dassey who could be getting out of prison.

"To get the Federal Court to even entertain any portion of the appeal is a huge victory for them and certainly for Brendan," explained one of Dassey's former trial attorney, Mark Fremgen.

Fremgen fought for Dassey during the trial that ultimately landed a teenage boy behind bars.

"I had no reason to believe he had anything to do with it, in fact he never, ever once said he had anything to do with it," said Fremgen.

Brendan's brother Brad Dassey sent this email to NBC26:
"We're hopeful and excited he'll be coming home soon.  That's all I can say.  The lawyer and Barb say I can't talk.  I hate it.  I do.  I love and care for my brother.  I always pray for him."

Jerome Buting, the lawyer who represented Steven Avery during his trial, took to Twitter after the ruling saying:
"State of Wisconsin should accept Federal Court decision and drop case against Brendan Dassey.  Avery is next.  Time to go after the real killer."

Brendan Dassey has been in prison for the past decade.
