ASHWAUBENON, WI -- The 42nd Annual WIAA girl's basketball tournament kicks off at the Resch Center on Thursday.

At a high school level, five local teams will compete at the Resch Center March 9-11.

Wrightstown plays at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

Shiocoton plays at 8:15 p.m. Thursday.

Hortonville plays at 1:35 p.m. Friday.

Appleton North plays at 6:35 p.m. Friday.

De Pere plays at 8:15 p.m. Friday.

All of our teams are hoping to make into the championship rounds on Saturday to compete for the gold ball.

Preparations were underway at the Resch Center Wednesday for the WIAA girls basketball tournament. Crews laid down decals on the court.

Organizers say they're excited to host the tournament in Ashwaubenon.

"This is a very sport oriented area of our state, the Green Bay-Fox Valley area. Obviously with the Packers, everybody's a sports fan, and we've found that our walk up crowd here is much better," said Tournament Manager Deb Houser.

The state tournament tips off on Thursday with the Division 3 semifinals.
