UPDATE: Mother and 4 children escape Suamico house fire

UPDATE: 7:30 a.m. The mother was taken to a local hospital with some burns to her hands.

UPDATE: 5:15 a.m. : Fire officials say a mother and her four children escaped the fire.  The mother was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

UPDATE 4:30 a.m. : A fire in Suamico forced a family out of their home Friday. 

The Suamico fire chief said everyone got out safely. 

Fire crews tell us the fire was contained to a back bedroom in the home. 

There was heavy smoke and water damage to the residence. 

The fire chief said they had to have WPS come and shut down the power to the home as a precaution. 

Multiple fire departments assisted in putting out the fire. 

An investigation into a cause is still ongoing.

SUAMICO, WI -- Crews are on the scene of a house fire in Brown County. 

The call came in just before 1 a.m. Friday on the 13000 block of Velp Avenue. 

Brown County dispatch said Velp Avenue is blocked off between Elvira Way and Trenton Lane.
