Cecil-- It's a bad sign for Shawano County winter tourism; closed snowmobile trails are hurting local businesses.

Ice fishing on Lake Shawano began recently, but it's not enough to keep the Lakeside Citgo afloat during the winter.

"If we could get the snowmobile trails open here this week that we definitely will see a good recovery, any little bit helps,” said Lakeside Citgo manager Jason Welsing.

Fireside Inn owner Sharon Rzentkowski says sales numbers are down about ten percent because of the milder weather.

"This year it hasn't quite been very lucrative only because we haven't had much snow," Rzentkowski said.

Patti Peterson is the tourism manager for Shawano Country—which covers Shawano and Menominee Counties. Peterson says Shawano County generated more than $52 million in tourism revenues in 2011. About 40% of that money came in between October and March.
