Little trouble in Wisconsin's first ID elections
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Local election officials say Wisconsin's first elections requiring voters to show photo identification went off smoothly.
Republicans who control the Legislature passed a law last year requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls. Fourteen other states have similar requirements.
About 525 municipalities as well as a number of counties held primary elections Tuesday. Clerks in La Crosse, Green Bay and Sheboygan say people generally showed up at the polls Tuesday with their ID cards in hand.
The clerks say they a bigger problem was redirecting people to new polling places after local redistricting changes. But they say poll workers were generally able to point people in the right direction.
