Tourism Meeting Grants
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Wisconsin Department of Tourism has a new grant program to help communities attract national or regional meetings and conventions.
The state says spending from meetings and conventions accounted for 11 percent of the state's $12 billion in traveler revenue in 2010. Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett says that prior to the recession, meetings and convention revenue was the fastest growing segment of travel in Wisconsin. Meeting and convention revenue increased 45 percent from 2000 to 2008, while total travel revenue
grew about 31 percent.
The department's grant program will provide local convention and visitor's bureaus with financial help for promotional expenses, including host city previews.
The Department of Tourism was not specific on the dollar amount involved in the grant program.
