GREEN BAY, Wis.--The Green Bay Catholic Diocese celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving for the new pope at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral Sunday morning.
Across Northeast Wisconsin the faithful came together sending praise to their new pope.
Green Bay Catholic Howard Lodl wouldn't miss it for the world.
"It was a great statement of welcoming, and a great statement of ushering in this new era of Pope Francis, and giving us insight," Lodl said.
Bishop David Ricken says Pope Francis's mission to remember the poor, will help Catholics put their faith in action.
"I think he's going to give us new emptiest to continue our charitable works and even to do even more. That's a great gift he's going to bring," Bishop Ricken said.
A universal gift that lifts Lodl's spirits.
"Green Bay is a growing and diverse community. I think the pope's message and the bishop's message today will help us with that, and understanding the world is a changing place," Lodl said.
Bishop Ricken tells us the diocese is reaching out to their Hispanic population to help solidify the church even more as universal.
