New Weather Service Alert System
The National Weather Service will be sending out more detailed alerts when severe weather hits our area.
The new warnings will alert people of the storm's strength by including the potential damage to trees and homes.
The NWS decided to try the new alert after a tornado devastated Joplin,
"There was a need we thought to provide additional information in tornado warnings to make sure that people take the right action when big storms hit," says Jeff Last of the National Weather Service.
The new system will be tested in Wisconsin starting April 1st.
