GREEN BAY, Wis.--The snow is making the roads messy and difficult. Many of us already know it's important to take things slow, but there are other tips drivers don't even think about when getting behind the wheel.

Claire Doty, who's normally a talker, now has few words. Instead she's the listener, while facing her fears in a driving test.

"It was a little nerve racking in the car," Doty said, after her driving lesson. "I wanted to make sure I was doing things right."

AABC Driving School owner Tom LaPlamte tells us there's simple things some drivers don't keep in mind.

"Make sure your headlights are on, the wipers are on, and drive slow and careful, and watch everybody else," LaPlamte said.

He also suggests to brake before a turn.

"Slush is like walking on slime. It's really slippery," LaPlamte said.

A few tips Doty will talk to everyone about.

"I think it'll definitely influence how I drive in the snow now," Doty said.

LaPlamte tells us about 37% of accidents are caused while someone is backing up, so another important tip is to make sure to scrape the snow and ice off your back window.
