GREEN BAY-- A former Green Bay Packers cheerleader is fighting back after she says she was bullied by Bears fans online.
Kaitlyn Collins is former University of Wisconsin Green Bay student and was a Packers cheerleader in 2009. On Feb. 4, someone posted a picture from her Facebook page on an unofficial fan page for the Bears. The photo drew more than 3,000 comments. Collins says many of the comments were disrespectful, even disturbing.
Collins posted a You Tube video as a response to vulgar comments. She hopes it sends a strong message to stop cyber-bullying.
I looked at the comments, my parents were with me and we were surprised and hurt, those comments, they were terrible,” Collins said.
Kaitlyn's emotions ranged from sadness when she first read the comments, to tears of joy once she realized people were sticking up for her, and standing up to the bullies.
Recently retired Packers wide receiver Donald Driver and current Packers guard T.J. Lang have tweeted their support Collins' video. The Packers organization also publicly supported her post.
If I can even cause somebody to have a second thought before they type something mean and horrible letting them know this is a real person and they could see that in the near future and it could hurt them and it could change their life,” she said.
Collins says Facebook would not take the picture and the comments down when she asked. But the administrator of the Bears fan page where it was posted did remove the photo late Thursday afternoon.
