APPLETON-- Randal Rosenthal will serve life in prison for murdering his mother and then dumping her body in the Fox River.  A judge allowed Rosenthal to be eligible for parole in 48 years. He would be 83 years old when first eligible for parole in July of 2061.

Prosecutors asked for life without parole, describing Rosenthal as a selfish and violent killer. Prosecutors say Rosenthal was unemployed with a pregnant wife and a young son when he shot his 53-year-old mother in hopes of collecting a $586,000 life insurance claim.

Rosenthal’s attorney asked for parole eligibility after 20 years. The judge agreed to the possibility of release in 48 years.

The 35-year-old father of two spoke briefly in court, thanking his friends and family for supporting his wife and kids while he's in jail.
