GREEN BAY, Wis.-- The Green Bay School District is taking steps to prevent a mass shooting like what happened in the Sandy Hook tragedy. District leaders plan to have lockdown training in every school building this week.

Washington Middle School principal Lori Frerk spent Monday walking the halls, making sure his facility is safe and staff is prepared. "We're trying to keep things as stable as possible. We have had some teachers talk about the incident in their classrooms as individuals."

The District is first offering its condolences and sympathy for the people of Newton Connecticut. "Our hearts go out to the community of Sandy Hook, " Barbara Dorf, the executive director of pupil services told us. "Our hearts go out to the staff and students and families."

The Green Bay Police Department is doing its part to make sure officers are familiar with school buildings in the district. " We met with principals at middle and high schools and went over entries into buildings," Green Bay Police Lt. Todd Lepine explained. "How their doors are locked, their camera security systems work".

It's a team effort, to make students feel safe while in the classroom.
