The fight for Charlie Knuth's education goes all the way to the Kimberly School Board Monday night.
 

His mother, Trisha asked the board to let Charlie back into the district he's always known. She says the district terminated his open enrollment while he was recovering from his second stem-cell transplant in Minnesota.

Trisha tells us she wants to put the Kimberly Superintendent in Charlie's shoes and help him understand her son's rare skin disease--so he can understand why Charlie needs to stay in the district.

"For everybody's sake I hope we can come to a resolution. I'm definitely sick of fighting stuff. I don't want to anymore. I just want to live with my family in peace, but this has to be done for Charlie's sake," Trisha said.

Trisha tells us Kimberly Superintendent Bob Mayfield denied Charlie's re-enrollment papers because he's a non-resident student who requires homebound services--even though she says tutors from the district worked with him at home before.

Now Mayfield says Charlie must enroll in the Kaukauna School District where he lives, before applying for open enrollment in Kimberly.

"We've provided a plan," Mayfield said.

Mayfield tells us the district set-up a meeting Tuesday with the family, as well as the Kaukauna School District.

"We're really close to resolving this, and I think that's what everybody really wants," Mayfield said.

The district could not release details about the meeting because of student privacy laws, but Trisha wants the emotional roller coaster to end.

"I want them to fix it for Charlie's sake. Nobody else's but his," Trisha said. "My God he's been through so much, why take one more thing away from him?"

 

The superintendent also tells us Charlie's re-enrollment was terminated because he was enrolled in a Minnesota school while he was recovering in the hospital. But Trisha claims that wasn't the case. She says the tutor Charlie had in the hospital was working with his teachers from the Kimberly District.
