SHEBOYGAN-- Heavy winds from Superstorm Sandy are having a big impact along Lake Michigan.
There are plenty of crashing waves along the Lakeshore especially in Sheboygan Tuesday. Rescue crews are reminding everyone to be careful, but some are not listening to the warning.
Surfer Bob Cook drove more than a hundred miles to catch a gigantic wave that doesn't wash ashore too often on Lake Michigan.
"We're trying to take as many precautions as we can. A friend of mine just showed up, safety and numbers certainly helps," Cook said.
Waves on Lake Michigan are expected to get as high as15 feet.
"I've been down here lots. I love the lake and I've never really seen it like this," onlooker Susan Dexheimer said.
As the waves grow, so does Dexheimer's camera roll.
"This is crazy, but you still have to feel so blessed after watching TV this morning and seeing everything on the east coast, but it's amazing this storm is so powerful it comes all the way down here as well," Dexheimer said.
Dozens of onlookers try capturing the waves, but Sheboygan Police advise the best way to stay safe is stay away.
"If a wave were to break over the top of them it could wash somebody into deeper water very quickly," Captain Steve Cobb said.
A risk Cook takes to dip into his favorite past time.
"If you look at a lot of extreme sports guys, it's very calculated what they do, they know the limits," Cook said.
With waves like this emergency crews say it's still important to wear a life jacket even while standing on shore. They hope the waves calm down by Wednesday.
