Counties Receive Funding to Improve Child Support
MADISON, WI (AP) -- Brown and Kenosha counties will receive federal funding to help parents make child support payments. The five-year initiative provides non-custodial parents with services they may need to support their families. The counties have some discretion on how they will use the $2.6 million in federal funds. One example might be to provide transportation for a non-custodial parent to get to a job, so he or she can make the child support payments.
Wisconsin Department of Children and Families Secretary Eloise Anderson says timely child support payments not only improve the life of the child, but reduce dependence on government assistance. The program will be targeted toward parents with child support cases in which there has been no payment in the last year since it was ordered.
