Green Bay's Mayor is upset about replacement refs call at the end of Monday night’s Packers-Seahawks game--so upset that he's taking his concerns straight to the NFL's commissioner, demanding the union refs get back on the field.
Mayor Jim Schmitt sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Tuesday--not asking for the call to be overturned, but urging him to end the ref lockout before it jeopardizes the Packers and Green Bay.
"We have a very special relationship with the Green Bay Packers. It's one of our flagship businesses in the community obviously. We want to make sure they're being treated fairly, and they're in the best industry they can be,” Mayor Schmitt said.
In the letter, Mayor Schmitt expresses his "disappointment". Adding, "last night's game creates a negative perception on the NFL brand, which in turn jeopardizes the Packers chance for success.” It goes on, stating the call could “negatively affect our local economy".
"I just think their focus may be more on watching the refs, than supporting the team,” Mayor Schmitt said.
A fear that has this die-hard cheesehead and mayor, wishing the commissioner would rule on his call for action.
"I hope he really understands how important this is to the people of Green Bay and the economy here in Wisconsin,” Mayor Schmitt said.
The mayor tells us he has not heard back from the commissioner. His letter also got national attention. The story appeared on TMZ's website.
