OCONTO COUNTY--After three-years, an Oconto County community breathes a sigh of relief after a Shawano man is charged with a double murder.

Deputies say 29-year-old Daniel Schmidt shot and killed 32-year-old Kimberly Rose and her brother 21-year-old Leonard Marsh at their home in Gillett back in 2009.

The victims' family declined an interview, but the community hopes the arrest will help the grieving family get closure.

"I'm very happy they finally put that guy in jail,” Micik said.

News of the arrest, lifts the shadow on Micik’s walk down Zastrow Road--past the house where her friend's mother Kimberly Rose and uncle Leonard Marsh were murdered three years ago.

"Their family has been grieving for years, and it kind of puts an end to their pain and misery with that,” Micik said.

According to a criminal complaint, Schmidt was having an affair with Rose. But later confessed to his wife and wanted to fix their marriage. The complaint states Rose started text messaging his wife about their relationship and money Schmidt owed her. Schmidt reportedly told his wife, "He would shoot rose, then himself."

Farmer David Gandt is the landlord of the home where Rose and Marsh were murdered.

"The whole community will get a little bit of satisfaction and relief. The family can get a little closure on it,” Gandt said.

Micik hopes the arrest will take her friend's family on the road to recovery.

"His family can just be a little bit happier now that he's away and not worry he'll come after them or anything. I know that was some kind of thought running through his head,” Micik said.

We tried calling the Attorney General's office to ask why it took three-years to make an arrest, but they haven't gotten back to us. Schmidt is being held on a $2-million bond. He'll be back in court on September 26th.
