Brown County May Drop $1M Public Housing Contract
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Brown County officials could drop a million-dollar contract with a nonprofit administrator that runs a public housing program, and instead handle the services in-house.
The program serves 3,200 Brown County families. It's managed by Integrated Community Solutions Inc., and it involves using federal funds to help low-income families pay for housing.
A Green Bay Press-Gazette report (http://gbpg.net/U7Yhok ) says the county is considering managing the program itself rather than pay more than $1 million per year in administrative fees.
Randy Gast chairs the ICS board of directors. He says losing the housing program could halt the agency's other services aimed at helping low-income families.
Robyn Hallet is the county housing administrator. She says county officials want to see whether it makes more sense for the county to manage the program.
