The pot bust in Marinette County is now being called one of the largest in state history. Investigators showed us some of 13,000 plants seized last week.
Five people from the same family were arrested and two suspects are still at large. The grow operations were in Athelstane and Middle Inlet, spanning over 60 acres.
"You can see it was being very well cultivated. It was a professional job. These plants were healthy and close to harvest. This was a significant grow. That is a huge number of plants. Higher than we would take off under most circumstances,” Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said.
Over 2400 plants are being kept for evidence in Marinette County.The rest, eradicated and buried at a landfill. They had a street value of more than $13-million.
Investigators say these plants may have been sold anywhere around the country.
"They could have been harvested anytime soon, but we don't know the plan for that. All I know is we harvested it for them and that's a good thing,” Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Suave said.
All five suspects face a mandatory minimum of 10 years behind bars.
