One Dead, Another Injured in Oshkosh Crane Collapse
OSHKOSH - The Winnebago County Coroner's office tells NBC26 that one person has died following a crane collapse at a construction site on U.S. 41.
The Wisconsin DOT says the employee who died was a worker with Spancrete of Waukesha. The Company issued a statement, releasing the name as Joseph Bidler of Green Bay. Spancrete says Bidler was a long time employee and it's thoughts and prayrers are with his family.
"Spancrete is a family company and Joseph is part of our family." Company Chairman John Nagy said.
The coroner's vehicle was seen at the scene of the collapse, which happened on a causeway at Lake Butte De Morts at about 9:00 a.m.
Another person was injured and taken to a local hospital with what were described as serious injuries. The DOT says that person was operating the crane.
Department of Transportation spokesman Kris Schuller says a crane was trying to lift a beam on the bridge when it collapsed.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department told NBC26 that one lane of northbound U.S. 41 was closed. It has since been re-opened.
The coroner's office tells NBC26 that they will conduct an autopsy.
