MADISON, Wis.- (AP) Wisconsin election officials predict turnout could be as a high as 65 percent for today's recall election.
Voters are deciding whether to oust Republican Gov. Scott Walker and replace him with Milwaukee's Democratic Mayor Tom Barrett.
Democrats and labor activists gathered more than 900,000 signatures in support of the recall after they failed to stop Walker and his GOP allies in the state legislature from stripping most public
employees of their right to collectively bargain.
Walker has argued that the move was needed to balance the state's budget. One student waiting in line to vote in Madison say it's clear to
him that Walker's policies have worked and he doesn't like recalls "as a piece of political action."
But another Madison voter says "there's a good reason" for a recall in Walker's case. Walker is only the third governor in U.S. history to face a recall vote. If he wins today, he'll be the first to successfully fend it off.
Walker isn't the only politician up for recall today. His lieutenant governor and three Republican state senators also face recall votes.
