Stacy's Stork Watch

Balancing Act

Hello from maternity leave! I'm now three weeks into my time off from NBC26, but I'm still extremely busy learning how to balance caring for two children instead of one! These are my observations so far...

Kylie+Marie1. Both kids always seem to need you at the same time... whether it's to eat, have a diaper changed or be cuddled... and the one who has to wait will let you know that she's not happy about it!
2. Shower. Food. What's that? There have been many days lately where I don't get a chance to do the simple things until night time when my toddler is in bed. I've learned to use that time wisely!
3. You can plan your schedule for the day all you want but something will always steer you off course (i.e. I was late to the doctor for Kylie's appointment because she had a blowout diaper before we left the house).
4. Double the children = double the mess and double the laundry. I feel like all I do all day is clean up, but the house still seems in disarray!
5. No matter how hard you try, they rarely nap at the same time which throws out the old advice of "sleep when the baby sleeps."

Sure it's challenging, but double the children is also double the fun! I love watching my older daughter grow in her big sister role. Hailey asks daily to hold baby Kylie. She's so gentle and loves to give her little sis a kiss on the cheek. Hailey is also turning into my little helper. She loves to help give Kylie a bath and change her diapers. If Kylie is crying, Hailey will bring her a pacifier or share a toy to make her feel better. I can't wait to see this sisterly bond grow over the coming years.

Kylie is also growing like a weed! I've never seen a newborn chow down like this little girl! She's eating about every 2-3 hours. You can tell by her chubby cheeks! She's also a strong little girl! She was able to hold her head up from the day she was born and is also able to roll onto her side. In fact, that's how she sleeps every night. I've never seen that before! She loves tummy time and is now coming out of the "newborn coma." No one believed me until now that she really does have eyeballs! She isn't sleeping through the night just yet (again, she has an insatiable appetite!) but she usually isn't too fussy which I'm so thankful for! We've only had a couple sleepless nights, so I consider us very, very lucky!

So that's the past three weeks in a nutshell. I'm really enjoying being a stay-at-home mom, but I do miss the daily grind of the newsroom. It seems odd to be home at night watching the news instead of delivering it, but I'm soaking up every minute of this special time with my family... even the late night feedings :)
