WOW - Women Over Wisconsin Presentation
In honor of Women’s History Month, the History Museum at the Castle will host a free presentation by the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame called “WOW - Women Over Wisconsin.” Learn about the first woman passenger to fly in Appleton back in 1911, Wisconsin’s earliest female pilots and airport managers, their contributions to the war effort during World War II and the challenges they faced to make it to the sky. Hear the story of Ruth Harman, Wisconsin’s first female airport manager, Marie Towle-Schuette, the country’s youngest pilot, and two Madison women, who flew 19-day adventure in a tiny Piper J-3 Cub to Florida and back in 1950.
