The Packers Hall of Fame announced its class for induction this summer and it includes defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila and kicker Chris Jacke. Both played well after my time but I did get an up close and personal look at their careers since I was covering the team during those years.
Kabeer came here as a very raw fifth round draft choice, but he was a hard worker and a good kid, the kind you want to see succeed. As a rookie, he actually began the season on the practice squad and I remember telling him, the practices are your games, go out there with that attitude ever day and get better every day.
Well, when it was all said and done, he got pretty good, and wound up as the team's all-time leading sacker. All-time.
I remembered Jacke as a good kicker but I didn't realize how good until an event I was m-c-ing a couple of years ago. I had to introduce Chris so I did a little research and re-discovered just how good he really was. He nailed a club record 17 from 50 or more yards. Third on the all-time scoring list. As a matter of fact, during the event, I can recall telling him that I couldn't believe he wasn't already in the Packers hall of fame.
He will be on July 20th, and football justice will finally be done.
