Stopping Adrian Peterson Key to Packers Defense

  • Print

It's been an interesting week at Lambeau Field. You talk to any of the defensive guys about tomorrow's game, and it's all about containing Adrian Peterson. Understandable considering his 409 yards rushing against the Packers this season, but only to a point.

The unexpected part of the Vikings win over the Packers last Sunday was the performance of Christian Ponder. Here's a guy who's been ordinary at best all season long throwing for three touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 120 plus.

To a man, the Packer players still maintain that if they stop Peterson, the Ponder thing we'll take care of itself. I hope they're right but I also know since Dom Capers became defensive coordinator, the Packers are 40 and 2, yes 40 and 2, when they hold the opposing QB to less than an 80 quarterback rating.

Something to chew on but as far as Peterson goes, the Packers aren't going to re-invent the defensive wheel.. For the most part they're going to do what they do schematically, they just have to do it better, and having a physical player like Charles Woodson back in the mix should be a big plus in that regard.
