Playoffs Priority: Focus on Run Defense

  • Print

In two games this season, Adrian Peterson has rushed for 409, yes 409 yards against the Green Bay Packers.

As the Packers work to solve that rather sizable problem thuis week, they're talking about focusing more on playing good run defense as a team, and less on Peterson.

The thinking being that they've been so concerned with Peterson, they've been neglecting the fundamentals of run defense, like gap control.

That's all well and good but to some extent, they're going to be able to fight fire with fire Saturday night.

Peterson is certainly a physical and violent runner, but Charles Woodson has been cleared to play and he is a physical, violent tackler.

The Packer secondary doesn't have a close second in that regard and Woodson's presence has got to help.

He's been out since week seven with that broken collarbone but don't look for the Packers to gradually work him back into the mix.

They need him for this opponent, and they need him now. No use saving anything for the dance, after all, the playoffs are sudden death.
