Have you ever gotten your butt kicked. Yours truly has, and more times than yours truly cares to remember.
The case in point that stings even to this day occurred at soldier field on December 7th, 1980. Yep, Pearl Harbor Day, and we were bombed by the Bears to the tune of 61 to 7. Felt lousy then, feels lousy now, but if you're in the NFL for any length of time, you will get taken to the woodshed a time or two and that brings to the Packers-Giants game.
Green Bay got handled in all phases but let's start with pass protection. Aaron Rodgers was sacked 5 times and took 7 other hits and that doesn't count the times he was able to run away from free rushers. Marshall Newshouse had problems blocking Osi Umenyiora while Evan Dietrich-Smith could have played a smarter game when it comes to pass pro.
Defensively, it was like watching last season all over again. Couldn't stop the run or the pass, and the tackling left a lot to be desired. That touchdown run that made it 31-10 at the end of the second quarter, terrible. Got seriously knocked around right across the board. The 59 yard screen pass, Erik Walden and Tramon Williams just have to play that better.
Fortunately, a bad game doesn't make a bad season, and this one was every bit as bad as the 38 to 10 final would indicate.
