Star Studded 'Hump Day' at Packers Training Camp

  • Print

It was hump day of the practice week and faces in the crowd included former Packers GM Ron Wolf, John Madden and Commissioner Roger Goodell.   After an off-season of suspensions and concussions, the commissioner is now looking at starting the season without a labor agreement with officials.  The league is already training Arena League and D-2 refs as replacements.  Stay Tuned.

What we liked:

-The overall intensity of the defense.  If you were to name a winner in today's practice, It was that side of the ball.

-The play of Clay Matthews.  He was virtually unblockable, many times at the expense of Marshall Newhouse.

-The cornerbacks getting more physical.  Coach Joe Whitt has been harping on it and the guys are listening.  There's no "live" tackling but Davon House was in perfect position and put a good lick on D. J. Williams in the open field.

-Jarius Wynn storming into the backfield and blowing up a run.  He also got underneath Bryan Bulaga and knocked him into the backfield in a short yardage situation.  The DE has had a good couple days.

-The kickoff coverage of rookie free agent linebacker Dezman Moses.

What we didn't like:

-The way Greg Jennings' head hit the ground after getting tossed down by House after a catch.  He was able to continue practicing.

-Jamari Lattimore getting juked out of his jock by Jermichael Finley during a tackling drill.

-A flat-out dropped pass by James Starks, no extenuating circumstances.

-Randall Cobb losing the ball on a strip by Jarrett Bush.  He had the good fortune of it bouncing out of bounds.

-The one-sidedness of the OLB/RB's 1 on 1 blitz drill.  The defense should win the majority, but not the far majority.

Quote of the Day:

"Attitude and tempo make up for a lot of mess-ups."

  Joe Whitt / Cornerbacks Coach
