It's that time in training camp. Assorted injuries reach a point of critical mass and practice gets cut short. Mike McCarthy trimmed about 45 minutes off tonight's workout thanks to an injury report that's in the double digits, but overall, still a solid session.
Of note:
-The Packers will do all of their practicing for the Charger game tomorrow. Tonight it was still Packer offensive sets vs. Packer defensive sets.
-Tori Gurley has been in and out with a groin and Diondre Borel is taking advantage. A practice squad guy last season, Borel has been consistently getting open and catching the ball. (That's a very good place to start if you're a WR.) Borel is also a former quarterback and that experience seems to help in regards to him seeing the "bigger" picture - as in how all the routes are supposed to compliment each other. #19 is making a run at the 53 man roster.
-The Packers used a lot of their "Bat" personnel package. It's enough to send offensive coordinators scurrying for the chalkboard. 1 defensive linemen, 4 linebackers and 6 defensive backs. To the naked eye, it looks a lot like "psycho", which is a 1-5-5 alignment.
-Davon House lined up with the #1's at right corner although he did get beat deep by Jordy Nelson in a 1 on 1 drill. Aaron Rodgers was throwing on the play.
-Jarrett Bush followed with a fine coverage effort vs. Randall Cobb.
-Rookie tackle Andrew Datko (7th Rd / Florida State) had by far his best night in 1 on 1 pass pro. Handled both Jarius Wynn and Anthony Hargrove and handled them well. It was good to see signs of life from a young player who's really been struggling.
-Donald Driver had one of his few drops this camp during a red zone drill. The ageless wonder came right back, however, and caught a touchdown pass.
-Desmond Bishop has a way of making his presence felt. Last night, it was by knocking folks around, tonight it was by snaring a nifty interception off Graham Harrell.
-For a guy who only played in 4 games last season and was signed off the street, Danny Muir has done a lot of good things. He's shown a terrific club move on pass rush and his intensity and enthusiasm have been contagious.
Programming Note: Practice starts at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon.
