Snowy days like today make many people dream about leaving Wisconsin winters and head for somewhere sunny and warm.  But buyers beware.  Some travel offers are just too good to be true.

"Free resort stay"..."free airline tickets"..."dinner on us"...if you're like the Kuhn family, offers like these are quite tempting.  Offers like these are the reason they attended a 90 minute presentation at Going Places Travel in Grand Chute.  However, a red flag went up after attending the presentation and paying nearly $2000 in upfront costs for membership.  They left the meeting with no free resort stay, no free airline tickets and no free dinners.  "We got no weeks of use of anything.  Just an 800 number to contact them to secure some type of travel arrangements," Jeffrey Kuhn said.  The Kuhn family feels they were duped.

NBC26 contacted the Wisconsin Department of Consumer Protection concerning Going Places Travel.  They told us they received 48 complaints about the travel agency.  "It's under investigation and just recently we've referred the case to the Wisconsin Department of Justice," said Consumer Protection Spokesperson Glen Loyd.  The Wisconsin Department of Justice confirmed receiving the paperwork and said the case is currently under investigation.

As we approached Going Places Travel, we met a couple from Green Bay who just attended a seminar and put $3000 down.  "What if we were to tell you that this travel agency is under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice?" we asked them.  "Oh that would not make me happy," was their reply.

NBC26 tried contacting the travel agency, but no one answered the door.

The Wisconsin Department of Consumer Protection warns people to be very careful when someone offers you a free vacation.  They say most of the time it's just their way of getting you to sign up for something and then charging you money.  If you feel you've been duped, Consumer Protection wants to know.  Call them at 1-800-422-7128.
