MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State legislators will get a chance this week to ask questions about last month's anemic deer hunt. The Assembly Fish and Wildlife Committee and the Senate Transportation, Tourism, Forestry and Natural Resources Committee plan to hold a public hearing Thursday morning at the state Capitol on the deer hunt.
Department of Natural Resources officials are scheduled to brief them on the hunt. Hunters killed only about 195,000 deer during the nine-day season, down 29 percent from last year. Hunters insist the DNR's overzealous herd management strategies have devastated the state's deer population.
