DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - Officials from the Lake County sheriff's department have recovered a body from the north shore of Lake Superior. A medical examiner is trying to identify it.
Authorities have been searching for 48-year-old Douglas R. Winter, a former Milwaukee Public Schools teacher who went missing in the lake last month while kayaking.
Lake County Sheriff Carey Johnson says the body was recovered just north of 2 Harbors in the Flood Bay area, the same area authorities believe the waves would have taken Winter.
Winter was last heard from about 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 19.
The case remained active the past three weeks with no clues coming in the past two weeks until the find Thursday afternoon.
