A Door County Couple is crying out for help saying they are being held hostage by their town.  Floyd and Connie Hilsabeck say the Town of Union will not allow them to sell their home and property. "I'm trying to sell this so I can get on with my life.  I want to get out of Wisconsin." Floyd Hilsabeck told NBC26.

The couple raises horses on their property. But, they want to leave Wisconsin and move to South Carolina to be closer to their family. They've had three chances to sell in the past year, but The Town of Union has blocked each attempt. "Every time you get your hopes up, the Town of Union says you can't leave." Connie Hilsabeck explained. The Hilsabeck's want to sell their property but the Town Clerk, Rina Lauzerne tells NBC26 she is simply enforcing current zoning laws. She declined an on camera interview request.

The Hilsabeck's real estate agent claims the laws are too controlling. "I have never run across zoning so strict and stringent than the Town of Union's" But the worst part according to Debra Jean Jeanquart is the clerk goes beyond the laws and uses her own personal opinion to make decisions. Something Lauzerine admitted during a phone conversation with NBC26. "Basically they're scaring buyers away with what ifs." Jeanquart told us.

Now the Hilsabeck's are facing bigger what ifs, what if they don't find a buyer and what if they never are allowed to sell their land. "Let me sell my land, so I can move. I don't like it here and  I can't move until this is sold."

The Town of Union says the couple can petition the law.
