Shawano County Investigators say a man who NBC26 interviewed at the scene of a major marijuana plant find is behind bars on felony drug charges. Jake Repinski was interviewed by NBC26 Video-Journalist Eric Peterson Wednesday afternoon. Shortly after, Deputies arrested Repinski after finding more than 5 pounds of left over pot plants in his possession.
Captain Thomas Tuma with the Shawano County Sheriff's Department told us what happened after the camera stopped rolling. "The individual was in possession of a controlled substance, marijuana and subsequently arrested for that possession." Repinski remains behind bars held on a $2,500 bond.
During Wednesday's short interview, Repinski claimed to be a hunter and seemed shocked over the discovery of more than 8 thousand pot plants in a portion of the Navarino Nature Area. "At least they should find somewhere else to do it other than public hunting land." Repinski told us. Video-Journalist Eric Peterson continued asking questions; "They left a whole lot of pot behind, something like a million bucks." Jacob Repinski replied; "Wow! that's a lot"
Upon his arrest, Repinski Told investigators he was bringing what he took to the sheriff's department. Deputies did not buy it and put Repinski behind bars. Captain Tuma tells NBC26 the area in question will be watched, just in case anyone else has a desire to pick over the leftovers. "The area under heavy surveillance to date, even after eradication and will be for the foreseeable future."
Shawano County Prosecutors have issued subpoenas for the video interview with Repinski. At this time, investigators do not believe Repinski was involved in the planting of the 8-thousand plants deputies removed from the area earlier this week.
