MADISON, Wis. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Ron Kind says he won't run for governor next year but instead intends to seek re-election.
Kind announced his decision Thursday.
The Democrat from La Crosse had been mulling a run for governor, but says he decided against it because he wants to stay focused on passing health care reform in Congress.
Kind says had he run for governor, he thinks he would have won.
He's served the state's western 3rd District since 1996. Republican state Sen. Dan Kapanke is running for the seat.
Kind's departure from the governor's race puts the focus back on Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, a Democrat, who said in August that he wouldn't make a decision for at least a month.
