WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) - Central Wisconsin is getting a new area code. The 715 area code is running out of phone numbers because of cell phones, fax machines, and other lines.

So in 2010 new phone numbers will have the 534 exchange. The change will start to be phased in for November. The new system will cover the same geographic area. Current customers will keep 715.

In the Green Bay area, 920 is also running out of numbers. They will begin using 274 in the spring of 2012. Wisconsin Public Service Commission decided on the new area codes last year because of the dwindling supply of numbers in the wireless world.
