MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The man whose body was recovered from a Madison lake has been identified as 50-year-old William Francis Sampson Jr.
Dane County coroner John Stanley said Friday that alcohol was a significant factor in the death.
Sampson had been swimming in Lake Monona with a friend Wednesday afternoon. The friend made it to shore safely, then realized Sampson was missing.
Madison police spokesman Howard Payne says there's no evidence of foul play.
The coroner's office didn't release a hometown for Sampson but said he has ties to the Madison, Baraboo and Chicago areas.
Authorities say the search for Sampson was slowed because algae and silt made for low visibility in the water.
