Two Michigan men suspected of armed robbery in Wisconsin are in custody after a two state chase.
The search for the men ended at the Bridgeview Apartment complex in Menominee, Michigan. The one suspect was arrested after investigators said he tried to run into some nearby woods. The news of their capture is bringing a sense of relief to people in two states.
An armed robbery shattered the afternoon lull at the Marinette bar on Monday.
"He says [to the bartender] 'I'm not F-ing around. I want that money or I'm gonna kill you,'" recalled Tec Reible, the owner of Back-A-Gan bar.
20 year old Patrick Erickson and 18 year old George Jardeen of Menominee, Michigan are accused of using a gun to grab the money and run. And it may not have been their first heist. Investigators say hours earlier there was a similar scene at a gas station in Menominee.
"The suspect came in wearing a hood and ski goggles and demanded money," said Mary Poquette the Assistant Manager of the Holiday on 10th Avenue.
Authorities in both states were on the look out and within minutes of the bar robbery an officer spotted the suspects' truck and followed it to the Bridgeview Apartments.
"The passenger ran out and headed toward a trail between the apartment buildings," recalled Cpl. Brian Helfert of the Menominee County Sheriff's Department.
Officers found a pile of dropped cash on the trail and a canine unit helped sniff out the man who ran into the woods. Now both men are behind bars for robbery and more charges may follow for the Holiday gas station hold up and other burglaries.
In the meantime, many are grateful the two are off the streets.
"This could've been tragic," said Reible.
